Pakistan’s Mushahid Hussain creates history at BRICS forum


ISLAMABAD – Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed has created history by becoming the first Pakistani to address the official International BRICS Forum hosted by Russia at the Far Eastern port of Vladivostok.

In his keynote address at the forum, Syed said Pakistan interested in joinin BRICS as it wants to be part of the new emerging order of the Global South.

He highlighted that Pakistan as a member of the UN Security Council during 2025-2026 will be a robust voice for peace, justice and the oppressed.

He also thanked Russia and China for their principled position on the Gaza Genocide.

Last year in August, the senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed became the first from Pakistan address a seminar of BRICS, a group of major emerging economies, in Johannesburg.

The development came after the Pakistan government received an invitation from the bloc, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, for the first time as the South Asian country’s participation was encouraged by Beijing.

Sharing the historic experience on social media platform X, Mushahid Hussain said he “addressed BRICS Seminar in Johannesburg, just before BRICS Summit tomorrow, the first Pakistani to be invited at BRICS event, which is a growing body that now has 20 countries in queue for membership.
